YORK, PA – York College is proud to announce the junior men's basketball player Paul Kouvaris has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 16, 2011. It is the second time in three weeks that Kouvaris has earned the honor as he led the Spartans a pair of victories this past week.
Kouvaris opened his week with 16 points, four rebounds, a blocked shot, an assist and a steal in his 31 minutes of action in the win over Hood. Kouvaris was 6-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
In the one-point road win at Salisbury, Kouvaris poured in 21 points and pulled in eight rebounds as the Spartans improved to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the CAC. He was 8-for-13 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free throw line while he also had a steal in his 32 minutes of work.
For the week, Kouvaris averaged 18.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. He shot 63.6% from the floor and 90% from the free throw line.
For the season, Kouvaris is averaging 12.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He is shooting 55.4% from the floor and 65.4% from the free throw line. He has also blocked six shots and registered 18 steals. Kouvaris has reached double figures in ten games including two 20-plus point efforts. He has also recorded two double-doubles for the year.
Kouvaris is fourth in the Capital Athletic Conference in field goal percentage while he is tenth in rebounding and 15th in scoring.
The Spartans return to action with a trip to Stevenson before returning to Wolf Gym on Saturday with a contest against Marymount.
