It is pretty insane when I think that in less then two weeks I will be back home in Hanover, PA. It feels like just yesterday that Amanda and I were arriving in Iceland, and now, we are both already packed and ready to go back from where we came.

Whaley and Kouvaris Selected to All-CAC Squad
The York College men’s basketball program received good news on Tuesday afternoon as senior guard Kevin Whaley and junior forward Paul Kouvaris were selected to the 2010-11 All-Capital Athletic Conference teams as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Whaley earned a berth on the first-team while Kouvaris was a second-team selection.

Salisbury Downs Spartans in the CAC First Round
The York College men’s basketball team saw their successful 2010-11 season come to a close with a 77-64 loss to Salisbury University in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament First Round Tuesday night in York. The Spartans, who swept the regular season series from the Gulls, finish the season 17-9. Salisbury advances to the CAC semifinals, as they will travel to Wesley College to face the second-seeded Wolverines on Thursday night at seven.

Spartans Set to Host CAC Tournament Twinbill
The York College basketball teams are set to host a Capital Athletic Conference tournament doubleheader on Tuesday night in York. The women face St. Mary's at 6:00 pm while the men host Salisbury at 8:00 pm.

Short Handed Spartans Down Salisbury on Senior Day
York College Spartans Men’s Basketball team came from behind to beat visiting Salisbury University 79-70 in overtime at the Charles Wolf Gymnasium Saturday afternoon in the season finale for both squads. The Spartans improve to 17-8 with the victory and 11-5 in the CAC. The Sea Gulls fall to 11-14 and 6-10 in the league with the setback. Prior to the game, seniors Dylan Hoffman, Matt Moley, and Kevin Whaley were honored for their contributions to the Spartan program.

Spartans Hand Wesley Their First Home Loss as York Secures #3 Seed
The York College men’s basketball team handed the Wesley College Wolverines their first home loss of the season as the Spartans recorded a 74-73 Capital Athletic Conference win in a key league game Wednesday night in Dover, Delaware. The Spartans improve to 16-8 overall and 10-5 as they have clinched the third seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament. The Wolverines fall to 12-3 as they have clinched the second seed in the tournament while they are 16-8 overall.

Spartans Pick Up Key Road Win at Mary Washington
The York College men’s basketball team picked up an important 76-70 Capital Athletic Conference road victory at Mary Washington Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, VA. The Spartans improve to 15-8 overall and 9-5 in the CAC while the Eagles fall to 13-9 overall and 7-7 in the CAC.

The York College men’s basketball team rode hot shooting and a stifling defense to post a 91-52 Capital Athletic Conference win over Stevenson University on Wednesday night in Charles Wolf Gymnasium. The Spartans improve to 14-8 overall and 8-5 in the conference while the Mustangs fall to 6-17 overall and 2-12 in the league.

Ok, this blog has been a little overdue, to say the least. Amanda and I left for our trip to Europe on the 16th of December and almost immediately upon return her family showed up for a week. When they left my family was here for five days. Now our last visitors are here, two of Amanda’s close friends from back in high school. Things have been hectic with traveling, basketball, family, and coaching.

York College is proud to announce the junior men’s basketball player Paul Kouvaris has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 16, 2011. It is the second time in three weeks that Kouvaris has earned the honor as he led the Spartans a pair of victories this past week.

Junior forward Andrew Pawlyk hit a game-winning free throw with 1.9 seconds left to lift the visiting York College men’s basketball team to a 62-61 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon. The Sea Gulls attempt to win the game bounded off the glass as the horn went off, enabling York to escape with the win.

Misericordia Stuns Spartans to Capture Coaches vs. Cancer Championship
Misericordia’s Ethan Eichhorst hit a lay-up with 5.5 seconds left to give the visiting Cougars a dramatic 71-70 victory over York College in the championship game of the 11th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Charles Wolf Gymnasium in York. The Spartans had a chance to win the game but Jeremy Skoloda’s three pointer at the horn went off the back of the rim, snapping York’s four-game win streak.

Spartans Offense Explodes in Coaches vs. Cancer Triumph
The York College men’s basketball team opened up 2011 in grand fashion Sunday afternoon as they routed visiting Central Penn 106-51 in the first game of the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center. The Spartans, who tallied 100-plus points for the first time since January 14, 2009, improve to 9-3 on the season and advance to Monday’s championship game against Misericordia.

The Spartans fall to 3-1 as, for the second straight year, their first loss is to the Falcons. Messiah improves to 3-1 overall with the victory.

The Spartans improve to 3-0 overall in 2010 while the Blue Jays suffer their first loss as they fall to 2-1.

he York College men’s basketball team opened it's own White Rose City Classic with a 90-57 win over Penn State-York in the tournament semifinals on Friday night. The Spartans improve to 2-0 overall while the Lions fall to 0-2. The Spartans played all 19 of their healthy players as they had four players reach double figures led by Kevin Whaley’s 15 points.

It is almost November 15th! For the first time in what feels like an eternity, I am looking forward to this day to watch a game, and not play in it. It just gives me this pit in my stomach to not be taking the floor in front of 1,500 screaming fans in green and white. It is crazy to me that while my boys will be playing in their first game of the year on Monday, I will have already had a handful of games under my belt.

Spartans Open Season with 20-Point win
The York College men’s basketball team opened the 2010-11 season in impressive fashion as they rolled past Lebanon Valley College 86-66 in the season opener for both squads. The Spartans used sharp shooting and timely defense to post the win. Senior Kevin Whaley led the Spartans with 23 points while three other Spartans reached double figures in the win.

Brady Inks Professional Basketball Contract
York College graduated senior guard Nick Brady has inked a professional contract with Briedablik of the Icelandic Express League. The team is based out of Kopavogur, Iceland and is the countrys second largest city and has a population of over 30,000 residents.

Whaley and Keefer Honored by the NABC
The York College mens basketball team had two players honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) as rising senior Kevin Whaley and graduated senior Jeremy Keefer each earned 2009-10 National Honors Courts accolades as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
