YORK, PA - York College junior men's basketball standout Kevin Whaley (Dover, Pa./Dover) has been named the Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week for his late-game heroics last Wednesday in the Green and White's 67-64 Capital Athletic Conference home victory over Marymount.
With the Spartans, who had scratched and clawed all evening against the visiting Saints, up one with less than a minute to play, Whaley canned a cold-blooded jumper with 55 seconds on the clock to give York a 64-61 advantage. Thirty-four seconds later, Whaley drained two free throws to push the Spartan lead to 66-61, before the squads finished with the 67-64 result.
The junior finished the game with 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting over his 32 minutes of action. Whaley also added four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and block in a showcase of his well-rounded game.
For the season, Whaley is averaging 15.5 points per game while shooting 48.9 percent from the floor and 44.1 percent from three-point range. The athletic 6'4" guard, has posted 3.8 rebounds per game while dishing out 2.8 helpers per contest.
Whaley and the Spartan return to action this evening, February 8, against visiting CAC foe Salisbury University. The contest, originally slated for last Saturday, February 6, at 2:00 p.m., has been pushed to tonight at 8:00 p.m. due to the weekend's heavy snow.
