YORK, PA - York College men's basketball junior Kevin Whaley (Dover, Pa./Dover) has been chosen as the most recent Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week for his performance for the week of November 23-29. Whaley led the Spartans to a 1-1 week as the Green and White now stand at 5-1, their best start since 2006.
On Tuesday's 67-66 win over Gettysburg, Whaley was nothing short of fantastic. The junior scored a game-high 24 points and knocked down a cold-blooded three with only 15 seconds to give the Green and White the one-point victory. He was 7-for15 from the floor, including 3-for-6 from deep-, and shot a nearly flawless 7-for-9 from the charity stripe. Whaley also swiped four steals over his 31 minutes of action.
Against Messiah on Saturday, Whaley canned 14 points while grabbing five rebounds in York's first loss of the season. In a game that was much closer than the final 77-69 score, Whaley was 5-for-18 from the field and ripped another four steals.
For the season, Whaley is averaging 16.2 points per game, while the long-armed guard leads the team with 14 steals. Shooting 47.2 percent from the floor, Whaley has converted a team-best 42.3 percent from three, while also leading in free throw percentage at 85.7.
Whaley and the Spartans return to action on Wednesday, December 2. York is set to host Penn State-Abington in a 7:00 p.m. non-conference tilt from the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center.
