YORK, PA – York College men’s basketball sophomore forward Paul Kouvaris (Baltimore, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) earned a pair of weekly honors as he was was named the Spartan Athlete of the Week and also picked up, for the second straight week, the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week award.
Paul Kouvaris led the 11-1 Spartans to their third in-season tournament title this weekend with a Tournament MVP performance. Kouvaris began his tournament with 11 points and nine rebounds in the win over Rosemont. Kouvaris then exploded for 21 points and a career-high 15 rebounds in the big win over Gettysburg in the Hampton Inn Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
Kouvaris finished the weekend by averaging 16 points and 12 rebounds per game as he shot an impressive 84.6% from the floor as he made 11-of-13 from the floor. He was also good from the free throw line as he made 76.9% (10-for-13) from the stripe. He added three assists, three blocked shots and a steal in in his 56 minutes of action for the weekend.
For the season, Kouvaris is averaging 10.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He is shooting 56.3% from the floor and 78% from the stripe. Kouvaris leads the team with 13 blocked shots in 12 games.
Kouvaris was named the CAC Player of the Week for the week ending December 20, the last award handed out in 2009.
Kouvaris is a sophomore sport management major and is the son of Paul and Jennifer Kouvaris.
