YORK, PA-York College is proud to announce that senior men’s basketball player Levi Winters has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week of January 28 through February 3.
Winters, a senior guard from Manchester, PA and Northeastern High School, led the Spartans to a pair of huge Capital Athletic Conference wins as the Spartans now sit alone a top the CAC standings with a 9-2 mark. The Spartans knocked off Villa Julie 84-74 on Wednesday evening and followed that with an exciting 84-78 win at Mary Washington on Saturday. The win at Mary Washington handed the Eagles their first loss at home in 2007-08.
In the win over Villa Julie, Winters tossed in 17 points and pulled down seven boards in the win. He was 4-for-8 from the floor and 8-for-10 from the free throw line. He also handed out three assists and had one steal.
Against Mary Washington, Winters led all scorers with 26 points in addition to seven boards. He was 9-for-12 from the floor including 4-for-7 from three. He converted all four of his free throw attempts for the game.
For the week, Winters averaged 21.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. He shot 65% (13-for-20) from the floor, 45.5% (5-for-11) from three, and 85.7% (12-for-14) from the free throw line. He added four assists and a steal in the two contests.
Spartan head coach Jeff Gamber is glad to see Winters playing great basketball.
“Levi has played great all year, especially in our biggest games,” states Gamber.
For the season, Winters is averaging 14 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. He is shooting 45.7% from the floor and 70.8% from the free throw line. Winters has handed out 50 assists and notched 18 steals in 20 games for YCP.
Winters is a business management major and is the son of Scott and Jackie Winters.
