YORK, PA-York College is proud to announce that senior men’s basketball player Chad McGowan has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week of December 31-January 6.
McGowan, a senior forward from Dallastown, PA and Dallastown High School, led the Spartans to a trio of wins for the week including the championship of the 2008 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic this past weekend.
The Spartans began the week with a 76-73 win at Kings. York then returned home to defeat Eastern University 99-76 in the opening round of the tournament. The green and white then handed 10-0 Elizabethtown their first loss, 80-74, in the tournament championship game.
Against Kings, the senior had 23 points, eight rebounds and a pair of assists. He was 8-for-13 from the field and also made six free throws for the game.
In the win over Eastern, McGowan tallied 20 points and pulled in nine rebounds in the big victory. He was 9-for-16 from the floor while he also had an assist and a steal. Against Elizabethtown, the 6-7 forward notched 21 points, a season-high 13 rebounds, a career-high five assists, a career-high tying four blocked shots, and three steals.
For the week, McGowan averaged 21.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.3 blocked shots per game. He shot 54.2% from the floor and played 92 minutes for the week. McGowan was named the tournament MVP for his efforts.
Spartan head coach Jeff Gamber is pleased with the play of his senior All-American.
“Chad played great all week,” stated Gamber. “He scored, rebounded, defended and, most importantly, provided the leadership that all good teams need.”
For the season, McGowan is averaging 21.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.6 blocked shots and 0.9 steals per game. He is shooting 55.1% from the floor as he is playing in 32.3 minutes per game.
McGowan is a criminal justice major and is the son of Chuck McGowan.
