YORK, PA-York College men’s basketball senior forward Chad McGowan (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) has been named to the State Farm Coaches All-American Team for the second consecutive year as announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches on Thursday. McGowan, who was a first-team selection last year, was a second-team pick in 2007-08. McGowan is the only player in this history of the Spartan men’s basketball program to ever earn All-American honors. He was also named to NABC State Farm All-Mid-Atlantic region first-team, also released on Thursday.
McGowan finished his stellar career as the second all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,980 points as the Spartans won 87 games in his four years in the green and white. York captured three regular season CAC titles, one CAC tournament title, made two NCAA Tournament appearances including one trip to the Final Four. He is a three-time All-CAC selection and was named the conference Rookie-of-the-Year in 2005. McGowan earned the CAC Player-of-the-Year the past two seasons. He was the NABC Mid-Atlantic Region Player-of-the-Year in 2006-07, an honor he was a runner-up for in 2007-08.
This season, McGowan was nothing short of spectacular as he led the conference in scoring (23.4 ppg), rebounding (8.5 rpg), and defensive rebounds (6.08 drpg) while he was third in field goal percentage (57.3%), second in blocked shots (1.4 bspg), and ninth in minutes played per game (32.6 mpg).
McGowan recorded a team-best 10 double-doubles as he was in double figures in scoring in all 24 games this year. He established a new career-high of 37 points in the February 16 Senior Day win over Wesley. He had 15 20-plus point efforts and four 30-plus point games this year.
Earlier in the week, McGowan was named to the d3hoop.com first-team All-Mid-Atlantic region. He will be eligible to earn d3hoops.com All-American honors as that team will be released Friday.
