York Moves Up to Third Place After Round Two of CAC Championship

CAPE CHARLES, Va. – The York College golf team moved up to third place after round two of the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Championship at the Bay Creek Resort Nicklaus Course on Saturday after recording a team score of 328, improving 12 strokes from the day before. The Spartans have a team score of 668 through two rounds.

Christopher Newport remains in the lead with an overall team score of 605 after carding a collective 296 in round two. Marymount retained its second place standing with a 326 on Saturday to bring the combined team score to 646 through two rounds.

Tyler Newton remains the Spartan leader through two rounds. The freshman carded a 10-over-par 82 on Saturday as he recorded a birdie on the first hole and made par on 10 holes. Newton is 16 over par through two rounds and is tied for seventh overall.

Senior Ryan Wolbach picked up two strokes on day two as he carded a nine-over-par 81. The senior recorded a birdie on the par-five 11th hole to go along with eight pars. Wolbach is 20 over par for the tournament and is in ninth place overall.

Tyler Keim made the biggest move and carded the best score on the team on Saturday. The senior improved 11 strokes from round one as he carded a six-over-par 78 in round two. Keim carded a birdie on the par-four fifth hole and made par on 11 holes. He 23 over par through two rounds and currently sits in 13th place.

Sophomore Brandon Hur picked up three strokes on Saturday as he carded an 87. Hur made par on 10 holes, including a run of four straight on the back nine. The sophomore is 33 over par through two rounds and is tied for 21st overall.

Junior Alex Colton also improved his score on day two, picking up six strokes as he carded an 88. Colton is 38 over par through two rounds and is in 26th place overall. 

The Spartans will be in the final group tomorrow with Christopher Newport and Marymount in the final round of the tournament. Colton will lead off with an 8:10 a.m. tee time and each pairing will follow in 10-minute increments as Newton will represent York in the final pairing with an 8:50 a.m. tee time.
