CAPE CHARLES, Va. – The York College golf team sits in fourth place out of seven teams, led by freshman Tyler Newton who is tied for fourth overall after day one of the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Championship at the Bay Creek Resort Nicklaus Course.
The Spartans carded a 340 collectively through round one, while Newton shot a six-over par 78.
Christopher Newport holds the lead with a 309, while Marymount sits in second with a 320 and PSU-Harrisburg sits third with a 325.
Newton carded one birdie on the day, which came on the fifth hole. The freshman finished with par on 10 holes with an even split of five on the front and five on the back.
Senior Ryan Wolbach ranks second on the team and 14th overall through the first round with an 11-over-par 83. The senior carded three pars on the front nine and five on the back for a total of eight on the day.
Senior Tyler Keim finished third on the team and 20th overall with an 89 through round one. Keim finished with par on five holes, including three on the back nine.
Sophomore Brandon Hur finished round one fourth on the squad and tied for 21st overall with a 90. Hur carded a birdie on 17 to go along with five pars on the day.
Junior Alex Colton rounded out the Spartan line up on day one as he is tied for 28th overall with a 94. Colton recorded a birdie on the sixth hole to go with three pars on the day.
The Spartans return to Bay Creek Nicklaus Course tomorrow for round two as the first Spartan ties off at 11:50 a.m.
