HERSHEY, PA – The York College golf squad battled the wind and chilly temps as they competed at the 2016 Hershey Cup hosted by the University of Rochester on Sunday afternoon in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The Spartans completed day one of the two-day tournament holding on to first place as they recorded a team total of 321. They are one shot out of second place and hold a five stroke lead on fourth place.

Tyler Newton led the Spartans with a four-over-par 75 as he is tied for second … Newton shot 38 on the front and 37 on the back ... Newton had bridies on nine, 14, and 17 … Ryan Wolbach was six over on the front and followed that with a 39 on the back … Brandon Hur had a 44 on the front and then shot a 38 on the back … Alex Colton also shot 44 on the front while he had a 39 on the back nine … Colton had a birdie two on the par three 13th hole … Tyler Keim carded a 43 on the front and a 46 on the back … Newton has recorded the best round for the Spartans in all three rounds that York has played this spring … For the year, Newton leads the Spartans with a 75.82 scoring average while Wolbach is second at 77.82.
The Spartans compete in day two of the tournament as they will attempt to move up the standings. The Spartan tee times will start at 9:39 am as all five Spartans will begin their rounds on hole number one.
