Spartans Sit Second After Day One of the Glenmaura National Tournament
GLENMAURA, PA – The York College golf team finished the first day of the two day Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational in second place as the Spartans fired a team total of 312 on Sunday afternoon at the Glenmaura Country Club.
The Spartans sit three strokes behind McDaniel as the Green Terror combined to shoot 307. The field is bunched behind the Spartans as Scranton is one stroke back in third while Swarthmore is fourth at 314. Susquehanna is fifth at 316 while Gettysburg is sixth at 318.
Sophomore Ryan Wolbach (Gilbertsville, Pa./ Boyertown) led the Spartans with a three-over-par 74 as he sits tied for second place in the 58 player field. Wolbach got off to a slow start as he was three-over-par in the first four holes. He rebounded to par his next five holes as he finished the front nine with a score of 38. Wolbach opened the back side with back-to-back birdies on ten and 11. Unfortunately for Wolbach, he gave those two strokes back on 12 with a double bogey. Wolbach would bogey 14 but birdie 15 as he finished with an even-par 36 on the back to earn his third place finish.
Senior Kevin Long (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Thomas) and junior David Boslough (Dalton, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) each shot a six-over-par 77 as the Spartan duo is tied for ninth place. Long shot a three-over 38 on the front as he had two birdies, two bogies and two double bogies. Long had eight pars and one triple bogey on the back nine as he finished with a 39 for his 77.
Boslough began his round with a bogey on the first hole and the fourth hole but bounced back with a birdies on five and six to get back to level par. Boslough gave two strokes back with a double on the par three seventh hole as he fired a two-over 37 on his opening nine. The Spartan junior shot a 40 on the backside as he had one birdie, four pars, two bogies, and a double bogey.
Freshman Anthony Wagner (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) and junior Josh Strausbaugh (Orlando, Fla./Lake Howell) both shot 84 as they tied for 35th place in the field. Wagner shot 41 on the front and 43 on the back. Strausbaugh shot 44 on the front and 40 on the back.
The Spartans start the second day of action at 9:20 am as Strausbaugh will tee-off first for York.
