MOHNTON, PA – The York College golf squad won the 14-team Alvernia Spring Invitational at Ledge Rock Golf Club in Mohnton, PA on a windy Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartans carded a team score of 318 as they won the tournament by ten strokes over second place Alvernia. DeSales finished third at 329 while Albright was fourth at 330. Messiah rounded out the top five at 332.
The Spartans were led by Ryan Wolbach (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) as the sophomore fired a six-over-par 78 to finish third in the field. Wolbach shot a one-over-par 37 on the front nine while he shot a 41 on the back side. Wolbach finished two strokes back of individual medalist Steve Kluemper from Centenary.
Three Spartans finished two strokes back of Wolbach. Senior Kevin Long (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Thomas), junior David Boslough (Dalton, Pa./Lackawanna Trail), and freshman Anthony Wagner (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) each shot an eight-over-par 80 to finish tied for eighth in the 71 player field.
Long went five over on the front but recovered to go three-over on the back. Long had his lone birdie on the par four 12th hole.
Boslough played well on the front as he shot a two-over 38 including a birdie two on the par three second hole. Boslough finished with 42 on the second nine.
Wagner matched Long's card with a 41 on the front and a 39 on the back.
Freshman Alex Colton (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) was the fifth Spartan player in the tournament and he shot an 88.
The Spartans have had great success at Ledge Rock as they won Alvernia's Fall Invitational on October 8. The first place finish is their fifth this season and first of the spring portion of the schedule.
The Green and White returns to action on Sunday, April 13 when they travel to the Glenmaura National Invitational, a two day tournament hosted by the University of Scranton.
