Long Tied for Second; Spartans Sit Fourth After Day One of Glenmaura Invitational

GLENMAURA, PA – The York College men's golf squad stands fourth of 12 teams after the first day of the 2013 Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational at Glenmaura Country Club in Glenmaura, PA on Sunday.

The Spartans fired a team total of 322 as they sit 11 strokes behind first-round leader McDaniel College. Muhlenberg is second, five strokes ahead of York with a team score of 317. Scranton finished day one in third with a score of 320. Swarthmore sits in fifth, three strokes back of York at 325.

York was paced by junior Kevin Long (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) as he fired a three-over-par 74. Long, who is tied with Elizabethtown's Ryan Lauderman for second, went out in 39 and came back in a tournament-best 35 on the backside.

The tandem of Travis Oot (Kirkville, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) and David Boslough (Dalton, Pa./Lakawanna Trail) each shot 82's to tie for 21st. Oot shot 42 on the front and 40 on the back while Boslough shot a 43 on the front and played the final nine in 39.

Eric Stauffer (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) was York's fourth scorer as he shot an 84 to tie for 27th place in the 60-player field. Stauffer struggled on the opening nine with a 47 but blistered the back to the tune of a 37 to put himself in the top half of the field.

The tournament's second and final round starts Monday morning.
