LEBANON, PA – The York College golf squad closed out the fall portion of their 2012 schedule with a fifth place finish at Monday's LVC Fall Invitational at Lebanon Country Club in Lebanon, Pa.
The Spartans shot a team score of 329, their highest score of fall. The tournament was played in much cooler temperature while conditions worsened as the round progressed and the overall scores reflected the difficult conditions.
Messiah won the event with a team score of 305, easily outdistancing second place Gettysburg by seven strokes as the Bullets carded a team total of 312. Alvernia placed third at 318 while FDU-Florham placed fourth with a team score of 325.
The Spartans were paced by junior Travis Oot (Kirkville, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) as he shot an eight-over-par 80. That was good enough to tie Oot for 11th place in the tournament. Sophomore David Boslough (Dalton, Pa./Lakawanna Trail) was one stroke back as he shot an 81 to finish tied for 17th.
For the first time this fall, junior Kevin Long (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) was not the Spartans' lowest scorer as he shot an 82 to finish tied for 25th in the 72-player field. It is also the first time that Long didn't shoot in the 70's for the year.
Freshman Ryan Wolbach (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) tied for 42nd as he shot an 86 to round out the Spartan scorers.
Long led the Spartans in the fall as he recorded an average of 74.8 with a top five finish and two other top 10 finishes. Long had York's only under-par rounds as he shot back-to-back 70's during the Penn State Harrisburg Tournament. Boslough, who was limited to just three events due to a mid-season injury, finished with an average of 78.0.
The Green and White finished the fall season with a mark of 49-24. They will resume the season in mid-March including a home tournament in late March at the Out Door Country Club in York.
