Golfers Finish Sixth at Bent Creek Invitational
LANCASTER, PA – The York College golf squad finished sixth of 16 teams at the Bent Creek Franklin & Marshall Invitational at Bent Creek Country Club in Lancaster, PA. The Spartans shot a team total of 316.
Alvernia shot an outstanding score of 294 to win the event by seven strokes over the Franklin & Marshall Blue and Penn State Harrisburg squads. Albright placed fourth at 305 while Franklin & Marshall White shot 315 to round out the top five.
The Spartans' team score was a little deceptive because two Spartans, Matthew Storck (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) and Austin Parker (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May Regional) both played as individuals and were outstanding. Storck fired a two-over-par 73 to finish sixth. Parker carded a three-over-par 74 which tied him for ninth. If Storck and Parker had earned a spot in the starting lineup, the Spartans would have shot a team total of 299 and finished second in the tournament.
Junior Kevin Long (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) paced the scoring Spartans as he shot a four-over-par 75. That tied Long for 13th in the 84-player field. Freshman Tyler Keim (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) was two strokes back of Long as he shot a 77, good for a tie for 23rd.
Freshman Ryan Wolbach (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) was the third Spartan finisher as he shot an 80, tying for 36th place. Junior Eric Stauffer (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) was the final Spartan scorer in the tournament and he shot an 84.
The Spartans return to action on Friday when they participate in the Penn State Harrisburg Invitational. The two day tournament kicks off on Friday at 12:00 pm.
