HARRISBURG, PA – The York College golf squad opened up the tenure of new head coach Matt Hunter with a strong second-place finish at the 17-team Messiah Falcons Classic at Blue Ridge Golf Club in Harrisburg, PA.
The Spartans shot a team score of 310, finishing four strokes back of team champion Franklin & Marshall. Penn State Harrisburg finished third, four strokes back of the Green and White. The host Falcons finished tied for fourth with Stevenson as they both shot 315.
Sophomore David Boslough (Dalton, Pa./Lakawanna Trail) paced the Spartans with a two-over-par 74 as he finished tied for third. Boslough was four strokes back of Messiah's Matt Burkhart who earned medalist honors with his two-under-par 70.
Junior Kevin Long (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) opened his season with a four-over 76, tying him for 11th in the 90-player field. Freshman Ryan Wolbach (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) was three strokes back of Long as he shot a 79 to tie for 17th place. Junior Travis Oot (Kirkville, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) rounded out the Spartan scorers with an 81.
The Spartans, who begin the season 15-1, return to action on Monday when they travel to the Bent Creek Invitational hosted by Franklin & Marshall. The tournament is set for a 12:30 pm shot gun start at Bent Creek Country Club.
