HERSHEY, PA – The York College golf team finished the fall portion of their 2011-12 schedule with a sixth place finish at the 18-team Elizabethtown Blue Jay Fall Classic at Hershey Country Club East on a beautiful Thursday afternoon in Hershey, PA. The Spartans shot a team score of 318 as they finished one stroke behind Gettysburg for fifth place. Stevenson won the tournament with a score of 300 while Messiah placed second at 301. McDaniel (304) and Moravian (306) rounded out the top five.
The Spartans were led by sophomore Kevin Long as he carded a seven-over-par 78. That tied him for 18th place in the 94-player field.
The next four Spartans in the tournament all finished with identical nine-over-par 80. Seniors Adam Burkhart, Adam Dupler, and Andrew Schmehl along with sophomore Travis Oot each finished tied for 25th with their matching 80's.
Dupler finished the fall campaign with a team-leading 78.3 stroke per round average. He notched one top-five finish, four top ten finishes and four top-20 results. Dupler just edged Long and Schmehl for the scoring lead as they each checked in at 78.4 and 78.6 respectively. Long had a team-best two-top fives including a win at the Messiah Fall Invitational while he also had two-top 10's and four top-20's. Schmehl had one top ten and two top-20's.
The Spartans finished the fall with a team stroke average of 316.2. Their lowest round of the year came in the opening round of the PSU-Harrisburg Fall Invitational as they shot 303. They went on to finish second in the two-day tournament.
The Green and White finished with a record of 54-31-1 during their seven-event fall season. York returns to action in mid-March when they begin the spring portion of the schedule.
