HARRISBURG, PA – The York College golf squad finished second of eight teams at the 2011 Penn State – Harrisburg Fall Invitational at Dauphin Highlands Golf Club in Harrisburg, PA. The Spartans shot a day two total of 308 as they totaled a tournament score of 611. That left them 14 strokes back of tournament champions Messiah as the Falcons blistered the course for a day two total of 295. The Falcons finished the tournament with a score of 597.
The Spartans were paced by senior Adam Dupler as the left-hander shot a 147 for the tournament. Dupler fired a one-under-par 71 on Friday followed by a four-over-par 76. He finished tied for second in the tournament with Stevenson's Justin Hughes. The duo finished seven strokes back of tournament champion Matt Burkhart from Messiah.
Senior Andrew Schmehl also played well in the tournament as he just finished out of the top ten of the 51-player field. Schmehl shot 77 and 76 for a two-day total of 153, leaving him tied for 11th in the tournament. Fellow senior Adam Burkhart was two strokes back of Schmehl as he shot 76 on day one followed by 79 on day two for a total of 155. Burkhart tied for 14th with his 11-over-par finish.
Sophomore Kevin Long rounded out the Spartan scorers as he shot 79 in the opening round followed by a five-over-par 77 for a two-day total of 156. That score left him tied for 19th.
The Spartans return to action on Monday afternoon when they travel to the Lebanon Valley Invitational. The tournament is slated for a 12:30 start.
