LITITZ, PA - The York College golf squad finished sixth at the 18-team Bent Creek Invitational at Bent Creek Country Club in Lititz, PA on a beautiful Monday afternoon. The Spartans shot a team score of 319, which left them three strokes out of a top five finish. Franklin & Marshall won the event with a team score of 305, edging second place Moravian by one stroke. Albright and Messiah finished tied for third with scores of 313.
The Spartans were led by another outstanding effort from sophomore Kevin Long as he finished fifth overall with a score of four-over-par 75. Long finished three strokes back of tournament champion Tom Fenyak from Moravian. The top five finish is Long's fifth such finish in 13 career collegiate events.
Senior Andrew Schmehl finished tied for 24th as he shot a nine-over-par 80. Sophomore Matthew Storck finished one stroke back of Schmehl as he shot an 81. Sophomore Jackson Terman was the final Spartan scorer as he placed tied for 40th with a score of 83.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday when they travel to the Gettysburg Fall Invitational. The shotgun start is set for 12:30 pm.
