HARRISBURG, PA – The York College golf squad opened up their 2011 fall campaign with a fourth place finish at the Messiah Falcon Classic on Tuesday at Blue Ridge Country Club. The Spartans carded a team total of 317, finishing four strokes behind team champion Franklin & Marshall.
Spartan sophomore Kevin Long picked up his second collegiate championship as he recorded a one-over-par 73 to tie Messiah's Matt Burkhart for medalist honors in the event. Long has now won two of his last three tournaments as he won the Ursinus Invitational last April 19.
Senior Adam Dupler carded a six-over-par 78 as he was the other Spartan to shoot in the 70's during the round. Senior Andrew Schmehl shot an 81 while Adam Burkhart and Travis Oot each finished with an 85.
The Spartans, who are now 12-3, return to action on Saturday when they travel to Susquehanna University for the Crusader Fall Invitational. The shotgun start is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
