Long and Spartans Earn Championship at Ursinus Invitational

ELVERSON, PA – The York College golf squad continued their strong play with a tournament championship at the Ursinus Invitational at Stonewall Golf Club – North Course in Elverson, PA on Tuesday. The Spartans edged Muhlenberg as they shot a 313, one stroke better than the Mules. Albright finished third while Delaware Valley and Swarthmore rounded out the top five. The tournament championship is the second of the spring season for the Spartans.

The Spartans also earned the individual title as freshman Kevin Long scorched the course with a one-over-par 71, good for a four-stroke victory over Muhlenberg's Jordan Carpenter. Long has taken over the team scoring lead with his win as his average is down to 78.8. Long's season average is the second-best mark in the Capital Athletic Conference this season. The 71 is also the lowest score registered by a Spartan this year. He owns three of the five lowest rounds of the year for the Green and White.

Freshman Travis Oot was the next Spartan finisher as he carded a 10-over-par 80, which tied him for eighth overall. Juniors Adam Dupler and Andrew Schmehl each carded an 81, tying them for 12th in the 62-man field.

The Spartans, who own a record of 88-39-4 in tournament play, conclude their 2010-11 season on Tuesday, April 26 when they travel to the Messiah College Spring Invitational. The shotgun start is slated for 12:30 pm.
