LITIZ, PA – The York College golf squad posted a second-straight second place finish as they were the runner-up at Monday's Bent Creek Invitational hosted by Franklin & Marshall College. The Spartans finished two strokes back of team champion Albright as the Green and White recorded a team score of 309. The tournament, held at Bent Creek Country Club, featured 15 teams and 78 individuals.
Junior Andrew Schmehl led the Spartans as he continues his strong year with a two-over-par 73. That score tied Schmehl for second place in the tournament, as he was just one stroke back of medalist Matt Burkhart of Messiah. Schmehl tied with Cabrini's Mike Ryan who also was two-over. Schmehl currently leads the Spartans with a 79.0 stroke average in 10 rounds for 2010-11.
Freshman Kevin Long continued his stellar play as he finished tied for fourth with a three-over-par 74. Long is the other Spartan besides Schmehl, that is averaging in the 70's as he is at 79.6.
The Spartans' team score of 309 is the third best score of the year, trailing their 301 at the Dickinson Invitational on March 21 and the 306 at the York College Spring Invitational on March 28.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to the Ursinus College Spring Invitational in Collegeville, PA. The shotgun start is slated for 1:00 pm.
