WILKES-BARRE, PA – The York College golf squad tied for seventh at the 11-team Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational at Glenmaura National Golf Club in Wilkes-Barre, PA. The Spartans tied with Swarthmore as they shot a two-day total of 634. The Spartans shot 318 on Sunday followed by a 316 on Monday.
McDaniel and Scranton tied for the tournament championship with Scranton winning the team title on a sudden-victory playoff. The Royals' top four players shot a combined three-under-par 13 on the par four 18th hole while the Green Terror combined to shoot a one-under.
The Spartans were paced by junior Andrew Schmehl as he shot a pair of four-over-par 75s to finish tied for fourth. Schmehl's two-day total of 150 left him three strokes back of individual champion Geoffrey Quinque of Elizabethtown. Quinque tied Greg Bowman of McDaniel but won on match of cards.
Freshman Kevin Long was five strokes back of Schmehl as he shot 77 on Sunday followed by a 78 on Monday for a two day total of 155. Long tied for 14th with his 13-over finish.
Junior Adam Dupler notched a two-day total of 161 as he shot 80 on Sunday followed by a Monday 81. His total of 161 left him tied for 19th in the 54-player field. Junior Adam Burkhart rounded out the Spartan scorers as he shot a 168 with an 86 on Sunday and an 82 on Monday.
The Spartans, who are now 62-37-3 overall, return to action on Friday afternoon as they head to Piney Branch Golf Club for the 2011 Capital Athletic Conference championships hosted by Stevenson University. The tournament will conclude on Saturday afternoon.
