YORK, PA - After carding a pair of mid-70s scores, sophomore Andrew Schmehl (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca) captured Capital Athletic Conference Golfer-of-the-Week accolades for September 14-21.
On the 14th, the Spartans traveled to Dauphin Highlands Golf Course for the 12-team Penn State-Harrisburg Fall Invitational. Schmehl posted an individual 76, placing him sixth out of 62 golfers in the field. His four-over-par score helped the Green and White to a team victory in just their first tournament of the season. The Spartans shot a 309 to best CAC foe Stevenson by one stroke.
Schmehl posted a one-over-par 73 the next Monday at the Lebanon Valley Fall Invitational, just one-stroke off the pace. The sophomore came in fourth in the 116-player field as the Green and White again shot 309. That score would lead the York squad to a second-place finish, only two strokes behind Albright.
Schmehl and the Spartans will look to continue their solid play on Thursday, October 1, at the Messiah Invitational. Tee-time is slated for noon.
