HARRISBURG, PA – The York College golf squad opened their 2009-10 campaign with a first-place finish in the 12-team PSU-Harrisburg Fall Invitational at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course in Harrisburg, PA. The Spartans edged Capital Athletic Conference rival Stevenson by one stroke as the Spartans carded a team total of 309. The host Lions finished third at 311 while Rutgers-Camden finished fourth with a team total of 312. Alvernia rounded out the top five as they shot a combined 315.
Sophomore Adam Burkhart (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) led the Spartans in his York College debut as he carded a three-over-par 75 to tie for third place, five strokes off the pace established by tournament medalist Brian Herman from Rutgers-Camden. Sophomore Andrew Schmehl (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca) was one stroke back of Burkhart as he shot 76, placing him in a tie for sixth.
Sophomore Adam Dupler (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) finished with a six-over-par 78 as he tied for 18th in the 62-player field. Senior Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central York) was the final scorer for York as he shot an 80 to tie for 25th. Wes Dixon (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern) was the final tournament participant for York as he shot 84 to tie for 40th.
The Spartans, who won the PSU-Harrisburg championship last year, return to action on Monday when they travel to the Lebanon Valley Invitational. The shotgun start is slated to begin at 12:00 pm.
