LITITZ, PA – The York College golf squad finished seventh of 18 schools at the 2009 Bent Creek Invitational hosted by Franklin & Marshall College on Monday afternoon at Bent Creek Country Club in Lititz, Pa. The Messiah Falcons won the tournament with a stellar team score of 303 while the Spartans finished with a total of 333. F&M finished second, a whopping 16 strokes back of Messiah as the Diplomats finished second. Moravian (323) placed third followed by Muhlenberg (328) and Neumann (328) who finished tied for fourth.
The Spartans were led by sophomore Andrew Schmehl (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca) as he shot a 79 to tie for 11th in the 94-player field. Schmehl’s eight-over-par day left him 10 strokes back of Albright’s Erik Thorn who carded an outstanding two-under-par 69 for the individual championship.
Fellow sophomore Adam Dupler (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) completed the round with an 82, tying him for 21st place in the tournament. Sophomore Adam Burkhart (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) was York’s third finisher as he shot an 83, which tied him for 25th.
The Spartans’ final two participants, senior Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central York) and Wes Dixon (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York), each shot 89 to finish in a tie for 61st.
The Spartans, who are now 53-10-1 for 2009,
return to action on Wednesday when they travel to the Elizabethtown
Invitational at Hershey Country Club. The tournament is slated to
begin at 12:00 pm.
