HERSHEY, PA – The York College golf team found themselves shorthanded as they finished 11th at the 16 team Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic on a breezy Wednesday afternoon at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, PA. The Spartans, who only had a four-man lineup for the tournament, shot a season-worst score of 357.
Elizabethtown won the tournament with a team score of 318. Messiah (320) finished second followed by Dickinson (323), Manhattenville (332) and FDU-Florham (336) for the top five teams.
Sophomore Andrew Schmehl (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca) led the Spartans as he shot an 11-over-par 82, good for a tie for 15th place. Sophomore Adam Burkhart (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) was four strokes back of Schmehl as he carded an 86, putting him in a tie for 34th.
Sophomore Adam Dupler (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) shot 90 while Travis Bartgis (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) completed the round with a 99 to complete the Spartan lineup.
The Spartans, who are now 58-20-1 for the season, conclude their fall season on Tuesday when they travel to the Links of Gettysburg to participate in the Gettysburg Fall Invitational. The event is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
