Spartans Head into CAC Tournament Primed to Defend Their Title
YORK, PA - The Spartans golf team heads into this weekend's CAC Championship tournament primed to repeat as Conference champions. While the Spartans are a youthful team, the squad is returning three of its five starters from last season.
The team shot a roaring 614 over the two-day event, which
granted the Spartans a 16 shot victory over Wesley. Sophomore
Adam Dupler (York Haven, Pa./Red Land), the
defending CAC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, led the
squad shooting a 75 and 74 at Piney Branch Golf Club last year.
Dupler enters the tournament averaging an 80.4 per round through 13
rounds this season.
The Spartans also have senior Cody Trabert (York,
Pa./Central York) and sophomore Andrew Schmehl
(Vincentown, N.J./Seneca) returning from last
season's championship squad. Both Trabert and Schmehl earned
second-team All-CAC honors last year with their performances during
the CAC Championship Tournament. Trabert is averaging 80.6 per
round this year through 12 rounds while Schmehl is averaging a team
best 78.2 per round in 13 rounds this season.
The last two members of the Spartan's starting lineup
are sophomore Adam Burkhart (Landisville,
Pa./Hempfield) and junior Seth Shober (Stevens,
Pa./Cocalico). Burkhart has put together a strong
sophomore campaign averaging 81.3 per round in 12 rounds of action
while Shober has become a strong fifth for the Spartans, averaging
84 through 6 rounds.
The Spartans are lead by Coach Jeff Gamber, who is the
defending CAC Coach of the Year.
The two-day tournament will be held starting Saturday at Wild
Quail Golf and Country Club in Wyoming, Delaware. Saturday's
round one action is set for a 1:30 pm start. Sunday's round
is schedule to begin at 11:00 am.
