HERSHEY, PA – The York College golf squad finished fourth of 11 schools at the 2010 Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, PA on Thursday afternoon. The Spartans fired a team total of 317, exactly 17 strokes back of team champion Messiah and 16 back of second place Penn State Harrisburg. Albright finished third with a team score of 305.
The Spartans were paced by sophomore Adam Burkhart (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) as he shot a seven-over 78, tying him for 11th place. Burkhart shot identical 39s on each side as he posted one birdie and eight bogeys for the round.
Senior Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central York) was one stroke back of Burkhart with a 79, tying him for 15th in the 60-player field. Trabert shot a 41 on the front, but recovered for a three-over par 38 on the back side. He had a pair of birdies in the round.
Sophomore Andrew Schmehl (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca) and junior Seth Shober (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) each shot 80 for the Spartans, tying them for 21st overall. Schmehl went 40 on the front and another 40 on the back while Shober shot 41 on the front and 39 on the back. Schmehl had birdies on holes one and two but then had six consecutive bogeys before notching a par on nine. Shober had birdies on the par four 11 and a four on the par five 14th hole.
Sophomore Adam Dupler (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) was the final Spartan to participate in the tournament as he shot an 82 to finish tied for 27th. Dupler shot 41 on each nine for York.
The Spartans are now 89-35-2 for the campaign. They return to action on April 11 when they travel to the Penn State Harrisburg Spring Invitational. The tournament will be a two day format and conclude on Monday, April 12.
