CARLISLE, PA – The York College golf squad won the Dickinson Invitational on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon at Eagles Crossing Golf Course in Carlisle, Pa. The Spartans shot a team total of 316 to win the tournament by five strokes over Gettysburg College. The host Red Devils finished third at 328 while Marymount placed fourth at 338. Ursinus rounded out the top five with a score of 342.
The victory was their second team tournament title of the year as they won the Penn State Harrisburg Invitational on September 14.
The Spartans were paced by the threesome of Adam Dupler (York Haven, Pa./Red Land), Andrew Schmehl (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca), and Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central York) as they each carded a six-over-par 78. The scores tied them for second, a stroke back of Gettysburgs’ Austin Smith who was the tournament medalist.
Adam Burkhart (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) was the final scorer for the Spartans as he shot an 82 to tie for 11th in the 44-player field. Wes Dixon (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York) was the Spartans’ fifth player as he shot an 86, tying for 22nd in the event.
The Spartans, who are now 82-32-2 overall, return to action on Thursday, April 8 when they travel to the Elizabethtown College Spring Invitational. The tournament kicks off at 12:00 pm.
