Spartans Start Spring Campaign with Seventh Place Finish

GETTYSBURG, PA – The York College golf squad finished seventh of 14 full varsity squads at the 2010 Gettysburg Spring Invitational at The Links of Gettysburg in Gettysburg, Pa. The Spartans shot a team total of 334, finishing 27 strokes behind tournament champion Wesley College. The Wolverines won the team title by five strokes over Susquehanna and 11 strokes over Dickinson. Messiah and Neumann rounded out the top five finishing teams.

The Spartans were led by sophomore Adam Dupler (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) as he carded a nine-over-par 81, good for a tie for 16th. He was followed by Andrew Schmehl (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca) and senior Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central York) as they each shot 84, 12 strokes over par as they finished tied for 30th in the 78 player field.

Adam Burkhart (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) closed out the Spartan scorers as he shot an 85 to finish in a tie for 36th. Patrick Matthias (Newark, Del./Salesianum) shot an 87 while Travis Bartgis (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) also participated in the tournament and shot an 89.

York is now 70-31-1 for the season. The Spartans return to action on Monday afternoon when they host their lone home tournament of the year at the Out Door Country Club in York. The York College Spring Invitational tees off at 1:00 pm.
