YORK, PA – The York College golf squad finished third at their own York College Spring Invitational at the Out Door Country Club in York, PA on a very windy Monday afternoon. The Spartans shot a team total of 328, which tied them with Elizabethtown. The Spartans captured third on their own courtesy of having the better fifth player score. Messiah won the tournament with a team score of 318 followed by Marymount as the Saints finished with a score of 321. Stevenson finished fifth with a total of 329.
Senior Jimmy DeCastro (Mantoloking, N.J./Governor Livingston) led the Spartans as he shot a six-over-par 78, good for a sixth place finish. Freshman Andrew Schmehl (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca, N.J.) and junior Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central York) were the next Spartan scorers as they each shot a ten-over-par 82. Those 82’s left Schmehl and Trabert tied for 15th in the 60-player field. Senior Shane Bernard (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) was the Spartans’ final scorer as he carded an 86. Freshman Adam Dupler (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) shot an 87 to provide the Spartans with the fifth player tiebreaker, enabling them to finish third.
The Spartans had four players play as individuals led by Travis Bartgis (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) as he fired a seven-over-par 79, which tied him for seventh place.
The Spartans, who are now 83-20 overall, return to action Sunday
and Monday when they travel to the Mid-Atlantic Regionals at
Hershey Country Club.
