HERSHEY, PA – The York College Spartan
golf squad finished 10 of 15 teams at the two-day Mid-Atlantic
Regional Invitational at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.
The tenth place finish was good for the Spartans as they finished
day one in 15th place. The Spartans shot 332 during day one and
bounced back with a team total of 316 during day two. The 316 tied
them for fifth on the second day. York finished the tournament with
a score of 648.
Carnegie Mellon and Washington & Jefferson finished tied for
first with Carnegie Mellon earning the tournament championship
based on a match of the fifth score. Allegheny finished third while
McDaniel and Rochester finished tied for fourth.
In round one, Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central
York) led the Green and White as he shot 81. Freshman
Andrew Schmehl (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca, N.J.)
carded an 83 while Jimmy DeCastro (Mantoloking,
N.J./Governor Livingston) and Adam Dupler (York
Haven, Pa./Red Land) each shot 84. Senior Shane
Bernard (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) carded an 85
for the Spartans.
Day two proved to be much better for the Spartans as Trabert
shot a five-over-par 76 as he finished with a two-day total of 157
which left him tied for 18th in the tournament. Schmehl and Bernard
carded matching 79’s on Monday for the Spartans. Schmehl
finished with a two-day total of 162 which tied him for 38th while
Bernard finished with a total score of 164, tying him for 47th in
the 75 man field. DeCastro improved his score by two strokes,
shooting a second day 84 to finish with a total of 166. Dupler shot
an 83 to finish with a total score of 167.
The Spartans, who are now 89-29 overall, return to action on Thursday, April 9 when they travel to the Elizabethtown College Spring Invitational.
