Spartans Conclude Fall with Win at Gettysburg
GETTYSBURG, PA-The York College golf squad won
the ten team Gettysburg Fall Invitational at the Links of
Gettysburg on Tuesday afternoon. The event, hosted by Gettysburg
College, featured 10 varsity teams and one “b” team as
there were 56 individuals participating in the tournament. The
Spartans shot 303 as a team, winning the tournament by five strokes
over Muhlenberg as the Mules finished with a 308. Elmira finished
third at 315 while the host Bullets shot 318 as a team.
The Spartans were led by senior Shane Bernard
(Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) as he shot a
two-over-par 74, good for a fourth place finish. He was followed by
freshman Adam Dupler (York, Pa./Red Land) as the
left-hander placed tied for fifth with a three-over-par 75.
Freshman Andrew Schmehl (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca)
earned York’s third top-ten finish as he placed seventh with
a four-over-par 76. Junior Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central
York), the Spartans’ final scorer, recorded
York’s fourth top-ten as he placed tied for ninth with a
six-over-par 78.
Senior Jimmy DeCastro (Mantoloking, N.J./Governor
Livingston) was the Spartans final tournament participant
and he also played well as he shot 79, good for a tie for 17th.
The Spartans, who conclude their fall schedule with a mark of
65-15, return to action in March when they begin the spring portion
of their 2008-09 schedule. The Spartans finished the fall with two
tournament victories, a fourth and two fifth-place finishes.
