Dupler Tied for First as Spartans Lead CAC Championships

HAMPSTEAD, MD – The York College golf squad used a strong team effort to take the lead after day one of the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference championships at Piney Branch Golf Club in Hampstead, MD. The Spartans shot a team score of 311 as they have a seven stroke lead over defending champion Wesley and Marymount as the Wolverines and Saints are tied for second at 318. The host Stevenson Mustangs shot a team total of 333 during day one of the two day event.

Spartan freshman Adam Dupler (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) is tied for the lead with Wesley’s Jeff Owsik as they each shot a four-over-par 74. Spartan senior Jimmy DeCastro (Mantoloking, N.J./Governor Livingston) is tied for third as he carded a six-over 77 for the Green and White. Freshman Andrew Schmehl (Vincetown, N.J./Seneca) was the third Spartan to shoot in the 70’s as he shot a 79, a score that ties him for third.

Junior Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central York) was the fourth Spartan scorer as he shot an 80, tying him for 10th place in the tournament. Senior Shane Bernard (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) was the final member of the Spartan line up and he shot an 83 leaving him tied for 12th in the 24-player field.

The tournament concludes on Sunday afternoon with the final round starting at 12:00 pm.
