Spartans Finish Fifth at Blue Jay Invitational

HUMMELSTOWN, PA-The York College golf squad
finished fifth of 11 teams at Thursday’s Elizabethtown Blue
Jay Classic at Hershey Links in Hummelstown, PA. The Spartans
finished with a team score of 321, one stroke back of fourth-place
Messiah. Franklin & Marshall captured the team championship
with a total of 305. Moravian finished second at 314 followed by
Dickinson at 315. The event featured 60 players participating in
the tournament.
Freshman Andrew Schmehl (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca)
led the green and white as he shot a four-over-par 76. That allowed
Schmehl to tie for sixth overall. Senior Jimmy DeCastro
(Mantoloking, N.J./Governor Livingston) was two strokes
back of Schmehl as he carded a 78, allowing him to finish 11th
overall. Freshman Adam Dupler (York Haven, Pa./Red
Land) was the third Spartan finisher as he shot an 83
while Shane Bernard (Churchville, Md./C. Milton
Wright) was York’s final scorer as he shot 84.
The Spartans, who are now 34-6 for the fall campaign, return to
action on October 1 when they travel to the Messiah Fall
Invitational. The tournament begins at 12:00 pm.
