YORK, PA-The York College men’s golf team won their second tournament of the spring season as they captured the title of the York College Spring Invitational at the Out Door Country Club in York, PA. The Spartans shot a team total of 310 to finish 14 strokes in front of Elizabethtown College as the Blue Jays finished second. Messiah placed third with 339 strokes while Marymount finished fourth with 345 strokes. Lebanon Valley (352), Gettysburg (357), and Villa Julie (359) rounded out the seven-team field. Dickinson had three individuals compete in the 41-player field as they did not score as a team.
Sophomore Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central York) won medalist honors as he fired a two-over 74 in the wet, cool conditions. Trabert won the event by three strokes as Elizabethtown’s Dan Senkler finished second with a five-over-par 77.
York captured four of the next five spots in the tournament. Shane Bernard (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright), playing as a part of York’s “B” team and junior Jimmy DeCastro (Berkley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) both shot 78 to tie for third while Sean Leitzell (New Cumberland, Pa./Susquehannock) and Brian Long (York, Pa./West York) tied for fifth as they both shot 78.
York junior Justin Heisler (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) was the final starter in the Spartan lineup as he shot 81 to tie for eighth place. York had two other players compete in the tournament as Nate Lankford (York, Pa./West York) carded an 82 to tie for 11th while Evan Vonatski (Eastport, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) tied for 14th with an 83.
The Spartans, who are now 67-21 overall, return to action on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Hershey Country Club to participate in the two-day Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament.
