HERSHEY, PA-The York College men’s golf team finished eighth of 15 teams at the two-day Mid-Atlantic Region Invitational at Hershey Country Club East in Hershey, PA. The event was hosted by the University of Rochester and pits some of the best teams in the region in an important tournament.
St. John Fisher edged Wesley College by one stroke for the team title. The Cardinals shot a two-day total of 607 while Wesley notched a score of 608. The Spartans finished with a team score of 639 as they shot 314 during day one and 325 during the second round.
The Spartans were paced by senior Sean Leitzell (New Cumberland, Pa./Susquehannock) as he shot a two-day total of 153. Leitzell carded a 77 on Sunday and a 76 on Monday. His seven-over-par left him tied for tenth place. Sophomore Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central York) was the next Spartan finisher as he placed 30th with a two-day score of 160. Trabert shot 79 on Sunday and 81 on Monday. Junior Jimmy DeCastro (Berkley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) and Shane Bernard (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) each shot 163 for the tournament as they both shot 79 on Sunday and 84 on Monday. That tied the duo for 41st place. York junior Justin Heisler (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) was the final member of the Spartan lineup as he shot 86 on Sunday and 87 on Monday for a 68th place finish.
The Spartans, who are now 78-24, return to action on April 10 at the Elizabethtown College Spring Tournament. The action kicks off at noon.
