GLENMAURA, PA-The York College men’s golf team finished tied for third at the two-day Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitaitonal at Glenmaura National Golf Club in Glenmaura, PA. The Spartnas finished tied with Franklin & Marshall as they each carded a total of 624. York shot 315 on Sunday and 309 on Monday while the Diplomats shot 313 on Sunday and 311 on Monday.
McDaniel won the team title with a total of 599 while Susquehanna placed second with a team score of 620. Muhlenberg shot 628 to round out the top five in the 12 team field.
The Spartans were led by senior Sean Leitzell (New Cumberland, Pa./Susquehannock) as he shot 153 with a 74 on Sunday and a 79 on Monday. His 11-over-par total left him tied for seventh in the 60-man tournament.
The tandem of Shane Bernard (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) and Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central York) each shot a two-day total of 158. They came by that score by two different methods as Bernard shot 86 on Sunday and came back with a sterling 72 on Monday. Trabert shot 82 on day one and followed that with a 76 during day two. The duo tied for 16th in the tournament.
Junior Jimmy DeCastro (Berkley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) shot 75 on Sunday but fell to 89 on Monday as he was the final Spartan finisher with a score of 164 which left him tied for 30th. Senior Nate Lankford (York, Pa./West York) was the Spartans’ final starter as he shot 166 with an 84 on Sunday and an 82 on Monday.
The Spartans improve to 103-38-2 for the year as they have concluded their spring regular season. York will participate in the first-ever Capital Athletic Conference championships on Saturday and Sunday afternoon at Piney Branch Country Club in Hampstead, MD. The action kicks off at 1:00 pm on both days.
