Spartans Finish Tied for Sixth at Blue Jay Spring Classic
HERSHEY, PA-The York College men’s golf team finished tied for sixth at the Elizabethtown College Blue Jay Spring Classic on a beautiful Thursday afternoon in Hershey, PA. The Spartans shot a team score of 320 to tie with Albright for the sixth spot in the tournament, which was held at Hershey Country Club East. Susquehanna captured the team title as they shot a total of 290. Franklin & Marshall finished second at 305 while Elizabethtown and Dickinson tied for third at 315. Ursinus rounded out the top five with a team score of 317. The tournament featured 14 teams and 79 players.
The Spartans were led by juniors Jimmy DeCastro (Berkley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) and Shane Bernard (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) each shot an eight-over-par 79. Senior Sean Leitzell (New Cumberland, Pa./Susquehannock) finished one stroke back of DeCastro and Bernard as he fired an 80. Sophomore Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central York), the reigning CAC Golfer of the Week, rounded out the Spartan scorers as he shot an 82. Senior Nate Lankford (York, Pa./West York) was the final member of the Spartan line up as he shot an 86.
The Spartans, who are now 82-33-1, return to action on April 14 at the Franklin & Marshall Spring Tournament. The action kicks off at 1:00 pm.
