CARLISLE, PA-The York College men’s golf team opened their spring season with a victory at the Dickinson College Spring Invitational at Mayapple Golf???Links in Carlisle on Monday. The Spartans finished with a team score of 310 as they edged the host Red Devils by two strokes. The tournament featured five varsity teams and two “b” teams as 41 individuals participated in the tournament.
York junior Justin Heisler (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) captured the medalist honors in the tournament as he fired a four-over par 74. Six other golfers including Shane Bernard (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) and Sean Leitzell (New Cumberland, Pa./Susquehannock), finished tied for second as that group shot seven-over 77’s.
Bernard was competing as an individual in the tournament but Leitzell was a member of the Spartan starting lineup. Junior Jimmy DeCastro (Berkley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) was York’s third finisher as he shot 79 which left him tied for tenth along with Adam O’Brien (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford), who was also competing as an individual in the tournament. Sophomore Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central York) was the four Spartan who scored for York as he shot 80 for his round.
The Spartans, who are now 54-18 overall, return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to the Gettysburg College Spring Invitational. The tournament is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
