Spartans Struggle Sunday, Fall to Third at CAC Championships

HAMPSTEAD, MD-The York College golf squad finished a
disappointing third of five teams at the inaugural Capital Athletic
Conference golf championships at Piney Branch Golf Club in
Hampstead, MD. Nationally ranked Wesley earned the first team
championship with a two-day score of 632 as they shot 317 on
Saturday followed by a 315 on Sunday. Villa Julie finished second,
jumping over the Spartans on Sunday, as they shot a total of 653.
The shot 324 on Saturday and followed that with a 329 on Sunday.
After the Spartans shot 321 on Saturday, they ballooned to a 343 on
Sunday, costing them a shot at the runner up position. Marymount
finished fourth while Hood placed fifth.
The Spartans had two players earn All-CAC honors, as both were
second team selections. Shane Bernard (Churchville, Md./C.
Milton Wright) finished sixth with a score of 161. Bernard
shot 83 on Sunday after shooting 83 on Saturday. Senior
Sean Leitzell (New Cumberland, Pa./Susquehannock)
finished eighth as he finished with a two-day total of 163.
Leitzell shot 83 Sunday after an 80 on Saturday.
Junior Jimmy DeCastro (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Gov.
Livingston) just missed out on earning All-CAC accolades,
as he placed 11th, two strokes out of an all-conference berth.
DeCastro shot 81 on Saturday followed by an 87 on Sunday for a
two-day total of 168.
Sophomore Cody Trabert (York, Pa./Central York)
rounded out the Spartan scorers as he finished tied for 14th with a
total of 172. Trabert shot 82 on Saturday but struggled with a 90
on Sunday.
The Spartans finished the season with an overall mark of 105-40-2.
