Welcome to the home for York College Athletics.
|Title:||Head Field Hockey Coach|
Carly Zinn enters her second year at the helm of the Spartan program. She was selected as the seventh head field hockey coach in the history of the York College program in June of 2013.
Zinn has been charged with rebuilding a Spartan program that has been consistenly finishing in the middle of the pack in the competitive Capital Athletic Conference.
Zinn comes to the Spartan program after serving the previous three years as the lead assistant coach at Dickinson College including a four-month stint as the acting head coach while the Red Devils were in the midst of a search.
Zinn was a three-year member of the Lock Haven University field hockey team, missing her sophomore year due to a medical redshirt. She helped lead the Eagles to a stellar mark of 54-14 (79.4%) during her career.
Zinn has a definite idea of what type of player she wants to recruit to York.
“Accountability is high on my list of what makes a successful team and program,” states Zinn. “Players need to hold themselves accountable and they should be able to hold their teammates accountable for what they do both on and off the field. Having those types of people will lead us to success. I want athletes who are willing to work hard and put in the time to be successful. I also want student-athletes who are mentally tough and willing to compete at a high level.”
Zinn also feels that York is an attractive option for Division III student-athletes.
“We will recruit student-athletes who will make a difference in our program. We want to create a family atmosphere where there is support from the coaching staff and the squad. We have great facilities that are some of the best in Division III. I feel we can attract a talented group of kids that will enable us to build a successful program.”
In Zinn's first season, the Spartans finished with a deceiving mark of 4-12. The outmanned Spartans dropped four one-goal decisions during the year as they easily could have been a .500 club. A trio of Spartans earned All-Capital Athletic Conference honors under the guideance of Zinn. Seniors Kailey Brewer and Jillian Brezgel joined junior Katie Petrillo in earning all-league accolades.
After a busy off-season of recruiting, Zinn welcomes in a strong core of newcomers as the Green and White embarks on the 2014 campaign.
