YORK, PA – The York College field hockey program had five players honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as they were named members of the 2013 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad as announced by the national office on Wednesday.
Seniors Erica Arantowicz (Birdsboro, Pa./Exeter Township) and Kailey Brewer (Hartly, Del./Smyrna), juniors Alyssa Martin (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and Katie Petrillo (Howell, N.J./Freehold Township) and sophomore Holly Martin (Hanover, Pa./South Western) each received accolades for their outstanding performances in the classroom. This is the third selection for Brewer, Petrillo, and Alyssa Martin, in addition to a second selection for Holly Martin.
Each of these student athletes has registered a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the fall semester of the 2013-14 academic year.
Brewer and Petrillo earned All-Capital Athletic Conference honors for the Spartans this past fall.
The Spartans also earned a spot on the Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year.
"I am proud of my team's performance in the classroom," said Spartan head coach Carly Zinn. "It is a credit to the kid in our program that we earned this team honor and to our five players who earned the individual honors."
The Spartans have now earned team NFHCA Team accolades in each of the last four years.
