Three Spartans Named to the All-CAC Squad

YORK, PA – Three York College Spartan field hockey players were selected to the 2013 All-Capital Athletic Conference squads as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon. Seniors Kailey Brewer (Hartly, Del./Smyrna) and Jillian Brezgel (Herndon, Pa./Line Mountain) and junior Katie Petrillo (Howell, N.J./Freehold Township) each earned second team all-league honors for their efforts.

Brewer makes her second All-CAC appearance, as she was a second team selection after her junior year. Brewer finished the season leading the Green and White in scoring with 23 points on 10 goals and three assists. She ranked 12th in the CAC in goals scored and 14th in points.

Brewer closes out her stellar Spartan career with 73 points on 29 goals and 15 assists in 71 career contests. She recorded five game-winning goals for the Spartans over her four-year career.

Spartan head coach Carly Zinn appreciates Brewer's fine play during the year.

"Kailey did a great job at organizing our attack and creating numerous scoring opportunities. Her relentlessness and ability to continually give 110% shined in her leadership role on our team."

Brezgel makes her first All-CAC team appearance after a very good senior year. The Spartan midfielder finished the campaign with 13 points on five goals and three assists. She tallied two of York's four game-winning goals. She concludes her Spartan career with 45 points on 19 goals and seven assists. Brezgel recorded seven game-winning goals during her Spartan tenure.

"Jill stepped up huge for us this year by bringing a spark to each game with her amazing speed and toughness on the field," said Zinn. "She was a versitile player who filled our defending mid position perfectly while contributing both with defensive saves as well as attacking stats."

Petrillo had a very good junior season for the Spartans to earn her all-conference honors. Petrillo made an impact on defense as she also provide a boost to the Spartan offense as well. She tallied seven points on three goals and one assist. Two of her three goals were game-winners for the Green and White.

Petrillo has played in 53 career games with 16 points on six goals and four assists.

"Katie transitioned from a mid position to a defending role and began to lead our denfensive line with poise and communication," comments Zinn. "Her defensive skills improved tremendously throughout the season from hardwork both on and off the field. She quickly learned a new position and did it phenominally, stepping up as one of the best defenders in the conference. She will continue to grow for next season in the defensive position, as well as contributing in the attacking circle.

Petrillo will headline the Spartan returning cast for 2014.
