Field Hockey Announces 2013 Schedule

YORK, PA – The York College field hockey squad embarks on their 2013 with new leadership as Carly Zinn has assumed the roles of the Spartan program.

Zinn's Spartans will face a tough Capital Athletic Conference slate that features three NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago. The schedule also has a strong group of non-conference games including the season opening weekend at Kinsley Field.

The Green and White begins the season on August 30 against Randolph-Macon followed by a Sunday home game against McDaniel.

After a trip to Gettysburg to face a Bullets squad that went 12-5 last year, the Spartans return home for a three-game home stretch. York hosts Washington & Lee on September 7 followed by a game against Eastern Mennonite on September 12. The home stand concludes with a contest against Shenandoah on September 17.

York then heads to Lynchburg to face the Hornets. Lynchburg went 19-4 last season, won the ODAC, and advanced to the NCAA Division III Elite Eight.

The Spartans come back to York to host Elizabethtown as the Blue Jays, who finished 14-6 last year, look to avenge last year's 3-2 come-from-behind Spartan victory. A quick trip to Alvernia on October 1 precedes a visit from Mary Washington as the Spartans open up conference play against the Eagles who went 20-2 last year. Mary Washington won the CAC and advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four.

The Green and White then heads to traditional national power Salisbury as York's first two league games will give them an immediate barometer on their standing in the CAC after two contests. The Spartans then go to Frostburg for another league game on October 15.

York hosts Wesley on October 19 before retuning to the road to face Juniata on October 22 follwed by a trip to Christopher Newport to face the Captains in a conference contest. CNU went 17-2 last year including a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The regular season concludes on October 29 when the Spartans host St. Mary's on Senior Day.

The CAC tournament starts on November 3 with the semifinals being held on November 6. The championship game will be held on November 9 at the highest remaining seed.

Zinn knows the Spartans will be challenged by their schedule.

"Our schedule looks to be very competitive this season," says Zinn. "The CAC alone is filled with extremely competitive teams, but even out of conference games will provide tough match ups. We will not be handed any easy wins this season, and all will be toughly earned."

The Spartans' conference opponents combined to go 79-39 with three NCAA Tournament berths while the Green and White's non-conference schedule includes teams that won at a 55.2% clip in 2012.
