HARRISONBURG, Va. – The York College field hockey team beat Eastern Mennonite 4-2 on Thursday night in a non-conference matchup. The meeting is the first between the two teams. With the win the Spartans are now 3-2 and Eastern Mennonite falls to 0-4.

The Spartans started the game off strong, scoring three goals in under 12 minutes. Junior Madi Wilt (Harwood, Md./Kent Island) scored just 3:57 into the opening half off a pass from Jillian Brezgel (Herndon, Pa./Line Mountain) on a well-executed corner. Wilt notched her second goal of the game less than two minutes later during another corner, with Katie Petrillo (Howell, N.J./Freehold Township) getting credit for the assist. The Green and White kept firing on attack and freshman Holly Martin (Hanover, Pa./South Western) tallied her first career goal at 11:15. The Lady Royals would fight back and score a goal of their own during one of their two corners of the first half. Melissa Cox found the back of the net off a pass from Camille Williams at 23:22. Eastern Mennonite would continue their offensive push, but the Spartans would hold onto a 3-1 advantage going into halftime.
