YORK, Pa. – Senior Sandee Reich (Pitman, N.J./Glassboro) scored her second goal in as many games, but it wasn't enough to beat visiting Gettysburg as the Bullets garnered a 3-1 win on Wednesday afternoon at Kinsley Field. With the loss the Spartans fall to 1-2, while the Bullets are now 3-0.
Gettysburg got on the board just 2:21 into the game when the Bullets were awarded a penalty corner and Liz Baron rocketed a shot into the cage off a pass from teammate Hayward Sawers.
York answered back at 8:29 with a goal of its own. Reich scored right in front of the cage off a great pass from freshman Holly Martin (Hanover, Pa./South Western). The Spartans were not able to hold Gettysburg off. The Bullets' Liz Baron scored another goal identical to her first at 17:21 and Sawers would score the final goal of the game with 2:25 left in the first half.
The Spartans played well defensively in the second half, not allowing the Bullets to score. However, they too could not seem to find the back of the cage. York managed six second half shots but only three on cage as they were blanked in the second stanza.
Total shots were close with Gettysburg holding a slight 21-18 advantage. The Bullets held a big advantage in total penalty corners at 19-6. Freshman goalkeeper Brittany Alvarado (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) made seven saves in 35:00 for the Spartans, while Alanna Curtis (Eastampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) made two saves in the second 35:00. Gettysburg's Megan Feeg was credited with the win and made nine total saves.
The Spartans return to action Saturday at 2:00 pm when they travel to Washington and Lee.
