HARRISONBURG, VA – The York College dropped a 4-0 non-conference decision to Lynchburg College on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Eastern Menonnite University in Harrisonburg, VA. The Hornets, who are ranked fourth in the nation, improve to 11-1 overall as they have won 11 straight games. The Spartans fall to 7-7 for the campaign.
The Hornets got on the board just 4:20 into the game as Shelly Milks scored off a pass from Kristina Morris for the game's opening score. The Hornets made it 2-0 in the 16th minute as Lindsay Leonard scored her team-leading 19th goal of the year. Amanda Wain earned the assist on the goal.
Lynchburg closed out the first half scoring with less than five minutes to go before the break as Milks scored her second goal of the game. The goal was unassisted as she now has six goals for the year.
The Hornets closed out the scoring with an Ashley Nelson goal midway through the second half. The goal was Nelson's fourth of the year.
The Hornets outshot the Spartans 23-4 while they also held a 12-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Spartan goalie Alanna Curtis registered a career-high 13 saves in the loss as she falls to 5-5 for the year. Tiffany Frye earned the shutout win as she made two stops for the Hornets. The shutout is Frye's third of the year as she improves to 11-1 for the campaign.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host the St. Mary's College Seahawks in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. Game time from Kinsley Field is set for 1:00 pm.
